The Keto Diet and Its History

The use of diet as a means of controlling epilepsy has been around for at least two thousand years. In order to reproduce the metabolic effects of fasting toward the control of seizures, modern doctors introduced the Ketogenic Diet in the 1920s. Before drugs for seizures came along, this diet was widely used for twenty years. After the introduction of the antiepileptic medications, the drugs took over and the Ketogenic Diet fell out of favor. But in the past fifteen years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the Diet. A side effect, the loss of body fat became a thing of great interest. The health benefits of losing considerable body fat cannot be denied, and the use of the Ketogenic Diet, or Keto Diet has been exploding.
